Redefine the DadBod

I strongly dislike going to the gym.  There I said it.

I've never been a fan of lifting...banging out reps...alternating days of back and biceps...chest and tris...leg days...It never really appealed to me.

I'd rather increase my lactic threshold than increase my max bench press. And I'm not even sure what a lactic threshold is.

I chose fitness as one of the main topics on this blog for a reason....I'm not good at it but yet I need to make it a part of my life.

For me, there are two keys to being proactive about my health and fitness to live an active and healthy lifestyle.

1. Purpose - As I wrote in a previous post "The motivation to live an active and healthy lifestyle needs to come from the ultimate goal….the “why.” You need dig deep and identify the real reason why fitness is a priority. It will make it easier to drag yourself out of bed and lace up the running shoes every day.

2. Accountability - I'm not a good workout partner because I am very good at excuses - "I'm too busy/tired/hungry/lazy to meet you for a workout or run...maybe tomorrow."

But I discovered this week that having a group of virtual workout accountability partners can be more effective than a gym buddy.

As you may have read, I'm attending the Dad 2.0 Summit this week. As a part of the event, attendees were invited to participate in the Smarty Pants Dadbod Reboot sponsored by Smarty Pants Vitamins and led by Dai Manuel aka "Coach Moose."

The Smartypants Dadbod Reboot is designed to hold guys like me accountable to leverage just 30 minutes a day to improve your body, mind, and spirit.

I figured I'm stepping out of my comfort zone to head to Dad 2.0, I may as well jump in headfirst and register for this program.

Coach Moose’s advice and encouragement is delivered each morning so I don’t have to plan my workout...it just shows up in my inbox. My favorite part however is the private Facebook group with fellow members. No gymtimidation here. Dai cultivates a supportive and community so that  everyone feels comfortable doing what they can each day to improve their fitness and mental well-being. As Dai likes to say, "You might be working out on your own, but you’re never alone!"

Coach Moose's workouts are challenging yet achievable. The are planned out and progressively build each day to keep you engaged while achieving results.

They haven't been easy but I know I'm feeling better with a consistent daily commitment to my health.

Thanks to Dai and Smarty Pants Vitamins for accountability and the kick in the pants.

I plan to post more about my experience this week after I meet Dai and the other guys in the reboot. Stay tuned!
